The Graphic Unconscious,” a gathering of no less than 300 artists at more than 80 venues throughout the city, one of the largest art events in the United States, and the world’s most important print-related exposition. Also part of Southern Graphics Council annual conference Mark/Remarqe.

Spanning nearly 30 years of creative inquiry, long-time
Media Arts (Animation) adjunct professor of CE (Connie) Coleman surveys her journey into digital imaging and her efforts to draw through the lens as a method of keeping a journal. Many of the early prints are rough, deliberately made with tools meant for office work, not fine art image making. As digital still photography became accessible, her prints became more highly resolvedand photographic in nature. This collection is self-referential, documenting Coleman’s personal embraceof what had once been a very cool medium.
 Susan S. Bank - Cuba: Campo Adentro (Multi-Day Event)

Terra Hall - (Gallery 1401 (14th Floor))

Philadelphia-based photographer Susan S. Bank lived
with 10 tobacco farmers and their families in rural Cuba from 2002 to 2008. Overcoming obstacles from the United States government and Cuban authorities and working with her Leica M6 and black and white film, Bank created a raw and poetic portrait of daily lives of campesinos. Her monograph “Cuba: Campo Adentro” was selected as one of the “Best Photography Books of the Year” by PhotoEspaña 2009.

Dorrance Hamilton Hall - (Gallery One)

Edel Rodriguez was born in Havana, Cuba in 1971. He majored in painting at Pratt Institute (BFA) and Hunter College (MFA). His work has appeared in five picture books, on stamps for the U.S. Postal Service, and on posters for films and Broadway shows. He is a regular contributor to The New Yorker magazine and was an art director at TIME magazine for over a decade.

Crafts Professor Sharon Church will speak about her work within the context of beauty and longing. Church creates lush works inspired by nature, in materials that were once alive, but now are dead. Through traditional craft processes, she creates iconic jewelry forms that are unabashedly sensual, intended both physically and conceptually for the body.
